How Every Job Runs — Start to Finish

Step 1 — First Contact

Call us on 0190 459 3302 or use the callback form. We ask what you've noticed — a leak, missing tiles, a damp patch, moss build-up, or just concern about your roof's age. We book a survey at a time that suits you, typically within 2-3 working days. No call-out fee, no obligation at any stage.

Step 2 — The Free Survey

Our surveyor spends 60-90 minutes on your property. From outside: we inspect every tile, ridge, hip, flashing, valley, chimney, gutter, fascia and soffit — photographing everything. From the loft: we check membrane condition, batten integrity, timber moisture, ventilation adequacy, and insulation depth. On York's 1930s stock in Dringhouses and Tang Hall, we specifically test for clay tile fatigue. On post-war estates in Huntington and Rawcliffe, we lift tiles to check for nail sickness. On Victorian terraces in South Bank and Heworth, we assess slate condition and lead flashing fatigue. The survey is tailored to your property type, not a generic checklist.

Step 3 — The Written Quote

Within 48 hours of the survey, you receive a written, itemised quote. Every line item is clear: scaffold, materials (specified by name and grade), labour, waste disposal. No lump sums, no ambiguity. If we've found issues you weren't expecting, we explain them with photographs and give you our honest recommendation — including telling you if something can wait. The quote is valid for 30 days.

Step 4 — Scheduling

Approve the quote and we schedule the work. For repairs, typically within 1-2 weeks. For re-roofs, 2-4 weeks depending on season. We confirm the start date in writing, tell you what to expect each day, and advise on anything you need to do (move cars, secure pets, etc.). Scaffold goes up the day before work begins.

Step 5 — Access Day

Scaffold is erected by our NASC-registered scaffold contractor and inspected before our team begins. On tight York streets — South Bank terraces, Heworth back lanes — we arrange pavement licences through City of York Council and notify neighbours. Skip placement for waste is organised in advance. You don't need to be home for scaffold erection.

Step 6 — The Work

Our team arrives at 8am each working day. On re-roofs, we work section by section — stripping, inspecting timber, replacing battens and membrane, and tiling one area before moving to the next. Your property is weathertight by the end of every working day. We photograph any unexpected findings and discuss them with you before proceeding. On repairs, most work completes in a single day. We sheet below the work area to catch debris and protect your property.

Step 7 — Cleanup and Sign-Off

When the work is complete, we clean up thoroughly — the site, gutters, driveways, and any affected garden areas. We walk you through the completed work, showing you what was done and why. You receive your 10-year workmanship guarantee in writing, plus manufacturer warranty documentation for materials used. We take completion photographs for your records.

Step 8 — Aftercare

For re-roofs, we return at 12 months for a complimentary inspection — checking for settlement, fixing tightness, and any early issues. This isn't a sales visit; it's a genuine quality check. If anything has moved or settled, we address it at no cost under the guarantee. Your guarantee is transferable if you sell within the guarantee period.

What We Never Do

We never demand cash. We never start work without a written quote. We never use subcontractors — it's our employed team on every job. We never ask for payment before materials are on site for larger jobs. We never tell you something needs doing when it doesn't. Payment

Repairs under £500: payment on completion, no deposit. Re-roofs and larger projects: staged payments — nothing up front, a mid-point payment when materials are on site and work is underway, balance on satisfactory completion. We accept bank transfer, cheque, or card. VAT-registered — all invoices include VAT at the current rate.
